Transit-oriented development (TOD) helps build demand for transportation options by focusing development around transit stations, corridors, or places transit can serve. Key elements for success include the selection and arrangement of land uses, land use density, design, parking management and services friendly to walking and biking.

Elizabeth Deakin, Director of the University of California Transportation Center and Associate Professor of City and Regional Planning at UC Berkley, briefed ACT members on the when, where, and why of this sustainable development technique.

In this netconference, "attendees" heard the audio portion of the live presentation via a toll-free telephone call and simultaneously viewed the PowerPoint presentation via Internet. This session included a ~30 minute question and answer session.
