On June 29, 2005,  the National Center for Transit Research’s National TDM and Telework Clearinghouse at the University of South Florida and the Association for Commuter Transportation held a net conference entitled "New Approaches to Reduced Car Use for Campus Communities”

Overview:

Campuses across the country face difficult challenges balancing institutional growth, transportation access, quality of life, and relationships with community neighbors, all within constrained budgets. This session explored national and international examples of successful techniques campuses are using to manage transportation while building sustainable communities. Attendees heard what’s working, in a variety of campus settings, from small towns to large cities. The panelists, Spenser Havlick and Will Toor, are co-authors of Transportation & Sustainable Campus Communities: Issues, Examples, & Solutions. They discussed how campuses large and small are expanding transit access, enhancing bicycle and pedestrian facilities, and designing incentives that encourage less driving. Spenser Havlick and Will Toor brought their practical experience both at the University of Colorado in Boulder and as elected officials in Boulder city and county government. A member of the Boulder city council for over 20 years, Mr. Havlick is an environmental design professor at the University of Colorado-Boulder. Formerly mayor of Boulder, Mr. Toor is now a county commissioner.

In this netconference, "attendees" heard the audio portion of the live presentation via a toll-free telephone call and simultaneously viewed the PowerPoint presentation via Internet. This session included a ~30 minute question and answer session between the panelists and the audience (estimated at over 150 people hosted by ACT chapters in over 30 cities across the country).
