U.S. Census 2000 - Public Transportation by State

The country's share of commuters using public transportation (Bus or trolley bus, Streetcar or trolley car, Subway or elevated, Railroad, Ferryboat, Taxicab)  remained about the same between 1990 and 2000.  In 2000, an estimated 5.16% of commuters used one form of public transportation.  In 1990, there were 5.27%.

The District of Columbia, New York, New Jersey had double digit rates of public transportation usage by commuters.  Six states have less than 0.5% transit share.
